Description
We believe that effective communication and teamwork can improve and enhance the understanding of Crew Resource Management in all phases of flight.
The MAYDAY CRM Training Tool is an interactive tool for classroom aviation training which combines Crew Resource Management training with the assessment of non-technical skills and Threat and Error Management.
The objective is to enhance the understanding of the different environments onboard an airplane – and to strengthen non-technical skills such as:
- Teamwork
- Communication
- Decision-making
- Leadership
- Situational awareness
How does it work?
The game is self-facilitating. This means that the participants drive the group discussions and decision-making through interaction and active learning. More specifically, the participants play a crew who is going to solve the challenges at hand – together.
Scenario-based learning moves operational decision-making (with Standard Operating Procedures) to a non-operational environment that emphasises learning, interaction, and fun.
The game is dynamic. This means that the decisions made will inevitably affect the outcome of the game. All decisions have consequences reflected in Risk, Inconvenience or the Dirty Dozen. Some decisions may escalate into critical events, whereas other decisions can avert an escalation. It all comes down to how the group handles the problem.
As a facilitator, you may experience that one group has a smooth game flow, while another group faces a critical event. Your role will be to monitor and assess the performance of the participants to provide effective feedback after the game. This is done with the built-in CRM Assessment Tool.
The game includes various decision-making tools (DODAR, FORDEC, GRADE, PIOSEE) which are used to enhance the training of effective decision-making. This is integrated through in-game NITS briefings.
